Frøydis Ree Wekre

Frøydis Ree Wekre è nata a Oslo, Norvegia. Figlia di una pianista e di un violinista amatoriale, inizia molto presto lo studio del pianoforte e del violino, passando poi al corno a 17 anni. Oltre a Oslo, ha studiato in Svezia, Russia e USA.
Dopo aver vinto un premio in un concorso nazionale per strumenti a fiato le viene offerto il posto di primo corno nell’Orchestra Filarmonica di Oslo nel 1965, posto che lascia nel 1990.
Come insegnante è stata professoressa di corno e musica da camera all’Accademia di musica della Norvegia fino al 2011. Attualmente tiene master classes e lezioni in tutto il mondo, ed è chiamata come giudice in concorsi internazionali. Al momento è insegnante di corno alla Ingesund Music Academy in Svezia, e insegnante ospite al Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Gran Bretagna.
Il suo libro, “Thoughts on Playing the Horn well”, è stato tradotto in molte lingue. Numerosi compositori hanno scritto opera per lei, alcune delle quali sono state registrate da etichette come SIMAX, CRYSTAL e 2L.
Frøydis Ree Wekre è membro onorario dell’ International Horn Society dal 1994, e membra di Musica Riva, Italy, Sarasota Music Festival, USA, Banff Festival of the Arts e Domaine Forget, Canada.


Horn soloist and teacher Frøydis Ree Wekre from Oslo, Norway, was studying piano and violin before turning to horn at the age of 17. Outside of Oslo, her studies have taken place in Sweden, Russia and USA.
After one year working in the Norwegian Opera, she joined the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and played as co-principal until 1991. She has performed under such conductors as Herbert Blomstedt, Bernhard Haitink, Mariss Jansons, Kirill Kondrashin, Zubin Mehta, Pierre Monteux, Esa Pekka Salonen and many others. In addition to her orchestral activities, she has been an active soloist and chamber musician, mostly in Europe and North America.
As a teacher Ms. Wekre was Professor of Horn and Chamber Music at the Norwegian Academy of Music until 2011. Nowadays she is travelling worldwide, lecturing and giving master classes.
Her book, “Thoughts on Playing the Horn well” has been translated into several languages. Her last book, COLLECTED WRITINGS, was released in 2020. More than 40 compositions have been written for her, some of which have been recorded on the labels of SIMAX, CRYSTAL and 2L.no
Frøydis Ree Wekre is an Honorary Member of the International Horn Society, where she also was the president during a period. For many years she has been associated with the Sarasota Music Festival, USA, Banff Festival of the Arts and Domaine Forget, Canada.
